Toyooka Craft
A Japanese woodworking company that handcrafts elegant, high-end wooden pen storage solutions & desk accessories.
Established in 1969 in Hamamatsu, Japan, Toyooka Craft Co., Ltd. began as a woodworking company producing organs, drums, and pianos for Nihon Gakki – now known as Yamaha. More than five decades later, the company continues to apply the same uncompromising standards of precision and craftsmanship to every piece it creates.
Today, Toyooka Craft is renowned for its beautifully crafted, metal-free wooden products, made using the traditional kumi-ki joinery technique. Rather than relying on nails or screws, each piece is assembled using precisely machined timber components, fitted together through advanced cutting and polishing techniques to create elegant, enduring designs.
One of the company’s signature innovations is a construction method developed by its founder, drawing on meteorological principles studied at university. By building with tolerances as fine as 0.1 mm, each piece is designed to anticipate and accommodate the natural expansion and contraction of wood, up to 0.5% in hot or humid conditions, ensuring exceptional durability and longevity.
For more than 30 years, the Toyooka Craft Collection has been treasured by authors, scholars, artists, and stationery enthusiasts around the world. From elegant fountain pen boxes and desk organisers to watch cases and writing accessories, every piece reflects a philosophy of thoughtful design, functional beauty, and deep respect for the natural character of wood. Their creations have become heirloom-quality pieces, designed to be enjoyed for generations.
