Stylo Art Karuizawa
Stylo Art Karuizawa is the work of Japanese pen maker and woodworker Motoshi Kazuno, whose handcrafted fountain pens celebrate the natural beauty of timber and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Each Stylo Art Karuizawa pen is individually designed and handmade using carefully selected woods, including kuro-gaki, yaku-sugi, Japanese cherry, Japanese ash, ichii, ebony, rosewood, cocobolo, and snakewood.
Finished with natural oils and waxes, every pen showcases the unique grain and character of the timber, ensuring that no two are ever quite the same. One of Motoshi’s signature creations is his striking ink-dyed Fuki-urushi fountain pen, which combines traditional urushi techniques with vibrant colour in a truly distinctive way.
Since 2014, Motoshi has also collaborated with master artisans in Wajima and Kiso to produce exceptional maki-e, chinkin, and urushi fountain pens. In keeping with Japanese tradition, these works remain unsigned, allowing the craftsmanship itself to take centre stage.
Many of Stylo Art’s pen models are inspired by the landscape surrounding Karuizawa. For example, the Asama model is named after nearby Mount Asama, while Shirane, Kazawa, Agatsuma, and Haruna take their names from the region’s mountains and rivers.
Motoshi also personally smooths and tunes his nibs, ensuring every pen offers an equally beautiful writing experience.
