Based in Canberra, RJ Custom Pens is the work of Robert Jandi, a lifelong tradesman whose passion for making things by hand has found a particularly beautiful outlet in fountain pens.
Robert began making pens as a hobby around ten years ago, drawing on more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry to develop his skills and refine his craft. Today, he creates custom handcrafted writing instruments for pen lovers in Australia and around the world, with a particular focus on quality materials, thoughtful design and beautifully finished details.
For this year’s Melbourne Pen & Stationery Show, Robert will be bringing a selection of custom fountain pens featuring his own in-house cast Alumilite resins, often brought to life with eye-catching mica effects. Alongside these colourful creations, his collection incorporates vintage pen materials from Conway Stewart and Mazzucchelli, as well as French Second World War-era casein cellulose acetate—giving new life to materials with a fascinating history.
One of the highlights of Robert’s collection will be his ultra-thin 7.8mm micro fountain pens, made using original Conway Stewart lady nibs. Small in stature but full of character, these little pens are a wonderful example of Robert’s approach to combining vintage components with his own contemporary craftsmanship.
