Hanabi Glass Studio
American-born glass artist, based in, Japan, Lucas Mahoney of Hanabi Glass Studio is a passionate creator whose work captures the awe-inspiring beauty of molten glass.
From a young age, Lucas loved making things – whether it was with wood, metal, clay, cardboard, or anything else he could get his hands on. But everything changed when he discovered glass. At just five years old, he watched a lampworker in action at a local mall and was completely mesmerised. He asked for one of the artist’s delicate glass ships for Christmas – a piece he still keeps to this day.
That moment sparked a lifelong fascination with glass and a drive to create pieces that stop people in their tracks – works so beautiful and striking they make your heart skip a beat. With over 20 years of experience under his belt, Lucas has built a reputation for craftsmanship, creativity, and constantly pushing the limits of what’s possible with glass.
He is known for his handmade dip pens, featuring stunning colour-shifting spirals in borosilicate glass. Lucas uses a technique called precious metal fuming, where vaporised gold or silver is worked into the molten glass. The result is mesmerising iridescent patterns that change colour depending on the light and background – creating a luminous, almost magical effect.
His process takes patience and precision, and the end result is always a unique work of art. Come meet Lucas and find your very own one-of-a-kind glass masterpiece.
