Bechori has led workshops at stationery and pen events around the world, including New York Stationery Fest, San Francisco Pen Show, Dutch Pen Show, Manila Pen Show, Houston Little Craft Fest, and events in Toronto. Each session combines practical techniques with encouragement and a relaxed atmosphere, making it enjoyable for both first-time participants and experienced lettering enthusiasts.
He has published four lettering books in Japan and has been teaching workshops professionally for more than seven years. His welcoming, beginner-friendly classes show that beautiful lettering is not about perfect handwriting; it is about slowing down, enjoying the creative process, and finding your own style.
Australia holds a special place in Bechori’s heart. Twenty-five years ago, he spent a year in Sydney on a working holiday and also visited Melbourne, memories that have stayed with him ever since. Returning to Australia to teach is especially meaningful to him, and he is delighted to share his passion for lettering with the local stationery community. He hopes to encourage more people to enjoy hand lettering and discover the happiness it can bring.

What should participants bring?
Participants do not need to bring anything. All materials and tools required for the workshop will be provided, including Bechori’s original workbook and practice sheets. The tools and materials provided for use during the workshop can also be taken home afterward, so participants can continue practicing on their own.
Both workshops are designed to be beginner-friendly, so no previous lettering or calligraphy experience is required.
What is the difference between the Monoline Lettering Workshop and the Brush Lettering Workshop?
The two workshops explore lettering through completely different tools and techniques.
The Monoline Lettering Workshop is Bechori’s signature workshop, which he has taught at many workshops and events in Japan and overseas.
In this workshop, participants will use a special type of dip pen nib with a small round disc-shaped tip, together with two different colours of ink. Unlike traditional calligraphy, where the thickness of the strokes changes, monoline lettering creates letters with a consistent line width.
One of the most important features of monoline lettering is that we are essentially drawing the skeleton of each letter. By removing the contrast between thick and thin strokes and focusing on this underlying skeleton, participants can clearly see and understand how letters are constructed. For this reason, monoline lettering is an excellent way to learn the fundamentals of letter structure, proportion, and balance.
Participants will learn how to build letterforms carefully while also exploring the unique characteristics of the special nib and beautiful two-color ink blending.
In the Brush Lettering Workshop, participants will use brush pens and learn how to control pressure to create the characteristic contrast between thick and thin strokes. They will practice basic strokes, letters, words and phrases, as well as explore color and gradient techniques.
Although both workshops are about hand lettering, the tools, hand movements, techniques, and resulting letterforms are quite different. Therefore, it absolutely makes sense to attend both workshops. In fact, the skills learned in each class complement each other very well.
For someone who wants to understand the fundamental structure of letters and experience working with a unique dip pen and ink, Bechori would recommend the Monoline Lettering Workshop.
For someone who enjoys expressive thick-and-thin strokes, pressure control, and the versatility of brush pens, Bechori would recommend the Brush Lettering Workshop.
And for anyone who would like to develop a broader understanding of hand lettering, he would definitely recommend taking both workshops. Learning the basic skeleton and structure of letters through monoline lettering can also help participants better understand the letterforms they create with a brush pen.
